At animation online you can create simple animated banners. Choose from one of their templates and simply type in your text. Not very pretty but it does the job fast and it is free.

Gifgear can help you put animations together. You must first have all the frames of the animations ready to upload and this free online tools puts it together into an animation.

You may already know about Xara and their range of graphics software but Xara also offers a range of web site addons that can be very useful. Much of this is free but some of the tools do cost money. Below are some of their most useful (in my opinion anyway!) website tools.

The Navbar Maker – Create animated navigation menus and drop down menus. Free or $39/year if you use the upgraded version.

Banner Ad Maker – Create banner ads using their online tool. Free to use or $10/year for the upgraded version.

Value Collection – Has the above included plus 13 more useful tools such as a feedback form creator, text animator and loads more.

Animasher is a new service that allows anyone to create free Flash animations. It’s very simple to use, simply choose from a library of available images (or use your own if you want) apply movement, sound, text etc. It can then be saved and embedded in your web site or blog.

To get started it’s probably best to watch the demo movie on the front page and don’t forget to read their terms of use before using the animations.
