Brighten your site with Icons from Icons-Land

Like many other people in the web design field, I love icons. Especially colourful, well designed, detailed icons. Some people collect them obsessively and at the very least, most will need them at one time or another. A well placed icon speaks volumes on a page (picture worth a thousand words and all that) and as well as prettying up a design, icons are very useful too.

What can icons be used for?

Huge unbroken blocks of text are nearly impossible to read and comprehend properly. Just like the way paragraphs serve to break up lots of text so can icons do the same thing for the design of your web page, newsletter or brochure.

You can use icons to draw the eye of your viewer to a particular area of your page (like where you are asking them to purchase something), you can highlight your RSS feed, Email and contact page, use icons as a more interesting alternative to bullets in a list etc.

Obviously designing an icon takes some artistic skill (and understanding of an image editor like Photoshop) so creating them is not everybody’s cup of tea. Which is why it’s a good thing sites like Icons-Land exist where you can download interesting, colourful and very affordable icons (at around $5 each this is a pretty good deal) I know there are many quality free icons available out there too but unlike free icons these are not being used all over the net and so it helps your site be a little more unique.
