New: Xara Web Designer
Xara have launched a new product called Web Designer which aims to help people with limited HTML knowledge create web sites. It is completely template based with over 700 graphic and template files included in the package. It is also very competitively priced at just $29 for the download version if you already own Webstyle or Extreme Pro 4, or $49 if you don’t. Take a look at Web Designer by Xara.

Xtreme Pro 4 – not ‘Extreme Pro 4′
Web Designer is not ‘completely template based’ – you can create you own complete site without ever touching a template.

As a non-geek tried many others, only one I mastered to any degree was FrontPage – but it is dangerous “out there”.
This is a snap for non-geeks!
Another “hole-in-one” for Xara (always in front with XLNT products.
Been using other Xaras since ….. dark ages of hard html.
Oh, definitely not “just template-based”. Think this is a putdown by disgruntled Designers!

Although Web Designer does help inexperienced people develop sites, it is wrong to imply this is its main purpose. It is useful for all Web developers, including those who despise WYSIWYG software. It supports style sheets, scripts, bespoke html, etc. but its main strength is the inclusion of Xara’s state of the art graphics capabilities. This supports all aspects of the design and implementation of a site in a way no other software does, and I’ve tried them all! For the first time, graphic design becomes the main focus of the site developer; most other things can be automated, if you want them to be. This is a fantastic tool that literally saves days of work and gives a better site as the end product – at an utterly silly price. If you are a professional developer, it will pay for itself in the first few hours of use.
I had a project to do and was looking for some ideas and templates. I came across Xara3D6 and Web Designer in the process. Download the trial and within a day I was hooked.
I am a somewhat experienced designer mostly using Adobe CS4 Web Design Pro and Visual Web Developer.
After discovering Xara Web Designer the CS4 upgrade was a waste of money… even at the deeply discounted price I paid for it.
For $49 this is the best thing out there.
It is now possible for me to create several top notch Websites within a week.
I had two happy customers this week.
And they are Visually Stunning ( if I may say so ).
Extremely easy to learn and use.
For the URL I entered:
Bought Web Designer on Monday
Meet with the client on Wednesday afternoon.
Started on Thursday.
Completed on Friday
The most cumbersome part was getting all of the external links and entering them. But even that was a cut-n-paste job.

Interesting. I’ve been seeing more and more of these type of products. In fact, there is a company called Interspire that let’s you host your own web based site building platform that you can resell to customers. Some very interesting stuff going on out there. Others include Weebly and Yola.

Xara web Designer is without a doubt one of the most powerful design programs available, and should not be considered as some kind of basic plug and play toy for newbies. We have spent thousands over the years, but this just leaves the competition in the dust.
‘For $49 this is the best thing out there’ – actually skip, for $499 it would still be incredible value. The more time you spend with this product the more capabillities you will discover. Things like bitmap filling plain text, importing graphic fills, click and drag group & ungroup, exact placement where you want it, click and drag transparency, layering, easy colour changes to images, shapes, words or just single letters, shadows for any item … it is quite simply a dream to work with and saves oodles of time.
Professional results are very easy with xara web Designer.
